I don't usually bother with drama here on this site, but this caught my eye, thanks to the journal of someone I watch: chix0r.deviantart.com/journal/…

I'm baffled as to why the topic of tracing as Art is even being debated, but I'm disgusted and saddened by the mocking and disrespectful tone of the Director of Community Operations, who could be setting a good example but isn't.

Ugh.

Edit: The Great and Exalted Shepard Fairey is taking a bit of heat for tracing, it would seem... news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090204/a…

I'm not sure I understand this whole tracing debate. Only problem I see is if you take credit/or don't give credit for art that isn't yours. Happened to me a couple time here, but when I brought it up credit was given to my original.
I agree that tracing is a great teaching tool. I did it for many years growing up. There's something about tracing a master artists work and see it coming from your hand. I think it helps you see into their work and process. At the very least copying teaches a lot. That's an old fine art tradition, to copy a Rembrandt, or Picasso, etc.

I can only think that this debate has somehow stressed out chix0r.
